I’m wearing so many secret layers today you guys wouldn’t believe
I went home for Thanksgiving, and while I was there I went shopping—sort of. You see, I went shopping in my mom’s closet. So this shirt, while not really new at all, is new to me, because my mom is awesome and lets me have things when I storm into her stuff, find things I like and say “Mom, can I have this? Please?”
Here’s how I took it to work

And for play? Well, add sequins, a scarf (it is winter) and a top knot, of course, and watch out for #fatcats crossing your path.

It’s been Christmas all up in here, complete with the best Christmas movie of all time playing on repeat: White Christmas.
If you haven’t seen White Christmas, I recommend getting your hands on it immediately. Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney will melt your heart, and Vera Ellen has the tiniest waist I’ve ever seen. It’s a beautiful classic, and I really mean beautiful. The style in this movie is incredible, and they do some of the best holiday color blocking, oh probably ever. (If you think I’m exaggerating the greatness of this movie, you are mistaken.)
Now on the 132nd time I watched this movie, I realized they often wear this lovely mustardy yellow color. See below.

So in honor of their excellent winter colors, I’ve made some outfit ideas on Polyvore. Here’s a way to incorporate this color at work. I also recommend exactly copying Rosemary Clooney’s outfit when she wears a yellow blouse and black skirt and killer black heels because she gets it exactly right.
And more casually, since most of us can’t pull off that leotard and mini miniskirt Vera Ellen is wearing.

Seriously, this movie is gorgeous. It could provide outfit inspiration for many months. In fact, Rosemary Clooney could write the book, teach a class, and hand out PhDs on how to wear stunning, dramatic black dresses in two three (I found another) scenes of this movie alone. But I’ll save that for another post. In the meantime, I have even more ideas for this color on Polyvore, check it out!
It’s been a rough week guys. And from asking around, it sounds like everyone is having a rough week. Sounds like maybe everyone needs a little bit of cheer. Well let me tell you, a bright spot in my week would definitely be this outfit.
Gold shoes, polka dots, a fun scarf and a few of my other favorite things. What are you doing to get ready for the weekend, besides make a stiff drink? (It’s been a whiskey kind of week, my sources tell me)
If you want to tell me more about your weekend, or what you’re wearing, or anything at all, hit me up in the comments, @rclnudson, on Facebook or at raesdays@gmail.com.
I had a cape date last weekend. It’s ok to be jealous. A friend of mine and myself were inspired by PS I Made This’ super cool, super easy, do it yourself cape. So we made our own!
Here’s how I took it to work.

And play!

I think I can make a lot of looks out of this cape, and all it cost was two yards of fabric and some time. And it was fun!
I’ve gotten a chambray shirt stuck in my head and I can’t get it out. I know it might give off the impression of “I wear too much denim” or “all casual all the time,” but I think that depends entirely on how you wear it. The material offers wonderful opportunity for unexpected combinations that I sincerely believe can be for work and for fun. Here’s some ways I’d wear it, with varying levels of professionalism.
See, it really can be versatile. Sigh. This is definitely on my want list.
Hello! I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and a safe Black Friday (yikes). Mondays can be the worst, let’s be real. Especially the Monday after a long weekend. So, to welcome back to the work week, I’m trying to have some fun.

This is my favorite part.

I love the geometry of this shirt and how it plays with the shapes on the clutch. I found that clutch when I went shopping in my Mom’s closet, and turns out it was my grandma’s. Pretty, isn’t it?
Here’s how I took the look from dressy to casual.

Switched my pencil skirt for jeans and boots, and this time I had fun with color/patterns in my sunglasses. See?

OH, I also got my hair cut.
See before. And after.

Like?
Whatchu been up to? Tell me everything. Are you adding any fun to Monday morning?
I love Kate Spade always, but I am dying over their super cute winter accessories!
My favorite are the scarves and hats with sayings on them. Too cute, and fun to look at on a blustery weekend.
Yesterday you saw my inspiration for the navy/black/bright combo. Here’s how I applied it with my own closet.

A lot of black, a little blue, and a bit of unexpectedness.
For the party? Just switch a pencil skirt for some sequins (and maybe some over-the-knee boots) and you are glammed and good to go.

See how it sparkles?

I loved this post from What I Wore. I don’t want to take the picture from her blog so you guys should click over real quick — but come back! — to see how good she looks. The texture, the black, the navy and the neon all look smashing. It was her, and that combination, that got me hooked on the idea. So, it’s time for how I’d wear this navy dress, if I had it, and if I combined it with something bright:
Dressed up and down, I think it adds a little bit of unexpected fun to a basic, and sometimes stoic, color. Also, I love neon.
Coming up, I’ll show you how I use my actual closet to bring this idea to my real life.
Would you accent navy with neon? Tell me at raesdays@gmail.com, @rclnudson, on Facebook, or in the comments.
