hot and cold

It is so hot outside I don’t want to be outside for more than two seconds at a time. Waiting for trains is highly unpleasant. What do you when you need to be presentable at work on days like this? For me, I throw on my lightest weight dress and some sandals. It can be strapless or halter–I’m going to cover it up. Then, when I get to work, I throw on a blazer. It sounds easy because it is easy. Don’t forget your office heels.

Dress from Marshalls; shoes, blazer, and watch from Target. Purse from a little leather shop in Portugal (that sounds awesome, doesn’t it?).

polka dot

Fridays in the summer mean happy hours right after work. Here’s how I took my look from work to play.

I put a light sweater over my polka dress. Both are from Express. Shoes are pink pumps from I can’t remember where. Belt–I think–is from Target. I really like this look. I like how the polka dots are just peeking out and I like the way the green belt goes with the pink. When work was over and I was ready for fun, I lost the sweater but kept the belt and threw on some sandals (from Target).

I had a really fun night. I hope you did too! Happy weekend.

patriotism

I hope you had a great Fourth of July! I’m not that into obvious theme dressing–I like to be a little subtle–but I accidentally got decked out in American blue and I wasn’t sad about it.

My shoes even got into the spirit of things. Sandals from Target, fantastic gray T-shirt with blue and yellow flecks from Uniqlo, shorts from Topshop. Bag I made myself! I’m pretty excited about it. I love the fabric. Not only is it super cute, but it’s oilcloth, which makes it easier to clean. Perfect for a clutch, no?

My favorite part is the yellow tassel. I like to test things out before I post them, and it held up perfectly today. I can’t wait to get it up on the Rae’s Days store. I’ll let you know when I do!

This outfit was great for a relaxed Fourth with a few friends. We grabbed a drink in Brooklyn, and when it got too hot I just tied my shirt around my waist to make a midriff. Sometimes I just feel the best in a T-shirt and flats, you know what I mean?

Hope you had a great holiday with friends and family. Bummer to go back to work after such a fun day, isn’t it?

hat

I am obsessed with this hat.

This hat is from Target for $12.95. It has a multicolored weave so I can wear it with everything (but let’s be real, I’d probably wear it with everything no matter what color it is). It is perfect for beach hair or bed head or I-don’t-feel-like-washing-my-hair-today hair or it’s-sort-of-windy-out-today hair or it-goes-with-my-outfit hair. It is perfect for this week. Outfits after the jump.

I traveled in this because a long skirt seemed comfortable for the car. Skirt from my mom’s closet, T shirt from Zara.

Hanging out at the beach. Dress from Marshalls.

Hanging out on the beach. Shirt and skirt from Target.

I sincerely doubt I’ll be taking this hat off anytime soon.

If you guys want to keep up with some pictures I’m taking this week, I’m on instagram @raenudson.

new clutch part two

Yesterday I showed you a look I was trying for vacation. Here’s a look I wore to work. Stripes and polka dots and my new textured clutch. Shirt from Topshop, skirt and shoes from JC Pennys, clutch from Raes Days. I like this looked, I felt put together and ready to start the week.

In a little less than a week, I’ll be headed south for family vacation in Florida. I’m super excited. I love family vacation, especially when it’s on the beach. Here’s a look I was thinking about for vacation, maybe for a time we go out to eat or go shopping. Dress is T by Alexander Wang, shirt is from Land’s End, shoes from Loft, clutch from Rae’s Days on Etsy.

play

I’ve been interested in the idea of midriffs but not really confident enough to completely pull them off (blame @oscarprgirl, she kills it in a midriff). This was my experiment with the idea. I’ve worn this shirt many many times before for work and for play, but I’ve never worn it quite like this. I just tied a knot in the front, and then threw on a high-waisted skirt so I wouldn’t actually be bare. Shirt is DKNYC, skirt is American Apparel, shoes are Loft, clutch I made myself.

The look from my last day at work before the much needed three day weekend. Skirt from express, button up from Uniqlo, top from Topshop, watch from the men’s section at Target, Shoes from JC Penny’s. Do you have plans for the weekend? My dad is coming! I’m super stoked.
