my new favorite

So, I showed you when I bought this shirt/dress/awesomeness, and it’s turned into my new favorite, most versatile item of clothing.

You could throw on some layers and a pencil skirt to make it ready for the office:

Or some knits and a blazer to get it ready for outside fun on a crisp fall day:

So good, right? I’ve combined many of my favorite things in these two outfits including, but not limited to boots, giant scarves, the color orange, handwarmers, pencil skirts (one of my professional answers for everything), strappy shoes, and purses that look like brief cases.

unmotivation

Sometimes, you have no motivation for getting dressed. For me, on these days, when you’re running late, and you can’t find the sweater you wanted to wear or you spilled coffee on the first outfit you put on, I’ve created a formula. Go basic, then add some fun.

For example. Nothing more basic than black and white. With clean lines and classic shapes, you have your work outfit. But with a scarf…or a purse…or a belt…or a blazer.

That’s four different outfits, all with one new piece added to your basic ensemble. Easy, right? And for a more casual look, just add jeans, a-duh.

sick days and online shopping

In the words of some character on 30 Rock, I have some weird sinus stuff. Although I’m not planning on taking a sick day, I think it’s time I give in and call the doctor. In the meantime, I’ll just treat tonight like a sick day, pop some NyQuil and online shop but not actually buy anything until I fall asleep.

I have this habit of filling my online shopping bag to the brim, and then just leaving it there in shopping purgatory forever, without actually checking out. I love it. I can be the richest person in the world, and buy anything I want, without actually spending any money or trying anything on. Maybe you’ve noticed I live in a fantasy when it comes to clothes sometimes, mostly with Polyvore. But sometimes browsing is nice—It allows you to explore your style, feel things out, and maybe look at something differently the next time you put your outfit together. So here is my pitch for online window shopping, catalog browsing, and all forms of looking around. Give it a try next time you want to kill some time, or are stuck in bed, or just because it’s Wednesday.

a dress

Simple. Easy to wear. Don’t have to worry about finding a shirt to go with it. All of these are reasons why dresses are great. And, depending on what you wear with it, a basic dress can be good for every (ok, not every) situation.

Like at work…

At work, I kept it simple, and kept my look clean. White blazer, some mascara and some nude heels keeps my outfit polished at the office.

For play/brunch/a really happy happy hour, I added some color and played up my accessories. Same dress, two different attitudes.

yarn

Since I did not go to homecoming at what I’m sure was the best homecoming ever (big tears), I started some handwarmers.

It was pretty awesome.

casual friday, and new outfit no. 3

My office doesn’t really do casual Fridays, but if we did, and if my place of work was down with silly sweaters, this is what I would wear:

Betcha thought that dinosaur sweatshirt would never see the light of day, huh?

For night…I would not change a thing. Or, you know, put on some sweatpants to go with that sweatshirt.

Happy weekending! (Sweatpants wearing or otherwise)

warm up

The weather has gotten a little cooler, and I can’t take my eyes off The Purl Bee. The result is a deep desire for all things knitted—there are so many projects I want to try!

I’ve been talking about handwarmers forever, and still haven’t made myself a pair. But this inspiration for some killer gloves…

plus this tutorial for colorblocked handwarmers, it has me maybe thinking I can do it? Maybe? I have the yarn, but need the right needles and probably some serious help. But think of the warmth! And the layering! Plus they’re just cute, right?

new outfit dos

I don’t know if you know how much I love color blocking, but I love it. I’ll demonstrate.

For day, I paired my blouse with a pencil skirt, and added some more color with my necklace and shoes. Office ready? I think so.

For night, I clashed in a great way. Again, don’t listen to those rules that say you can’t wear red with pink, or pink with pink, or pink with orange, or what have you. Clashing can be cool. So, I switched the pencil skirt for something a little hotter and changed my bag for another with even more color. We’ve had a few unseasonably warm days, but if it’s to cool for bare legs where you are, just add some tights to this look and you’re good to go to any party the night takes you.

Have fun! Add color!

A word on Miu Miu

This picture from The Cut blog perfectly demonstrates my like/dislike for the Miu Miu booties. The shape is gorgeous, the design…well, not my fave. And when done wrong, it’s so wrong.
